Week 3 Reflection

Over this week I have worked on my action research plan. I am having a little bit of a hard time doing this task mainly because of the way I am having to do the internship. I currently am doing my student teaching assignment so am unable to do my internship. I have gotten approval to do my internship with the GCCISD technology dept but I will not be actually starting the internship until the end of April. It is kind of hard to figure out what I will be doing so far in advance. We work on figuring out a plan, but we have agreed that things may change. You never can tell what may be going on that far in advance.
This week I also read about different ways of presenting your findings. I read that you can give an oral presentation or a written presentation. I think both of these are good ways of presenting information. I read about the different things you need to add to your presentation. I personally think the most important is being able to back up what you are saying with data. I think people will find your finding more credibleif you can back them up with data.

  1. Brandi,

I agree completely with you when you say that we will be more credible if we can back up our findings with the data we collected and interpreted. Whether we are presenting it orally or in writing without the data to support our position, most people will view it as nothing more than our opinion.

Good luck figuring out what you are going to be able to research. I teach full time and still had a hard time getting all parties involved to agree on a topic.

  2. Thanks Jeannette. I think I am doing it on using laptops in the classroom. It is just difficult right now. I will know a lot more once I actually get to start my internship.

  3. Brandi,

I think you are right about needing to back up what you think with data. When a person has data and then puts that data to use in some productive way then a person will get someone’s attention. If someone sees that we are actually using data to solve our problems they will want to know more about action research. You want to be credible. If you are doing your student teaching, it would seem that you will have to be careful how you tread and maybe enlist some veterans who want to help you. I admire your drive!

  4. I have one teacher who is going to try and get me a time set up to speak with a fifth grade teacher she use to work with. Not having a teaching job makes it difficult. I have to search for the person I am going to do my internship under. I am doing it with the Chief of Technology for the school district. I am excited about it, but I can't do anything until I finish the student teaching assignment I am in. I hope to actually start my internship the end of April. I hope that eventually this district will hire me since I am doing everything with them. One can hope anyway.
